The Eternals –“Rocking in the Jungle”: Bronx Doo-Wop Groups 1st 45’ release originally titled “Christmas in the Jungle” which wasn’t working out so well since the holiday was over 8 months away. Careful where you step, you may cross a lion in your travels with this tune.

The Coasters – “Sorry Gonna Have to Pass”: Storytelling R&B Vocal Group of the late 50s. They were outside the box when it came to Mainstream Doo-Wop, many would try to imitating their style in later years. But they are the Kings of weaving vocals around a story.

The Dartells – “Dartell Stomp”: Another Great Rockin’ Instrumental this time from 1963! More killer organ work, pumping bass and a driving drum beat and break that doesn’t quit!

Great tunes for a miserable Friday morning here in the office - have really cheered me up! Love those Craftsmen and Eternal tunes in particular.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone have that Cowabunga surf box set released.. ooh, about 10 years ago now? I didn't buy it at the time and I've been kicking myself ever since. It had some top Craftsmen style tunes on it.
Simon - isn't that the sort of thing you should be discreet about? Do they still make undies from man made fibres - 'undercrackers new from ICI'

I played all these tunes several times on the bounce, when I first heard them - I've never dipped in to Doo-Wop before but will give it a go now. Don't know the Cowabunga box, but the Las Vegas Grind albums are well worth digging out if you can find them.
