Funky Friday - Podrophenia 2 - Phew What A Scorcher

This chap has appeared in Podrophenia 1 and 2 - but who is he?

Summer's here and the time is right for podding in the streets..

I'm away for a couple of weeks, so I'll leave you with Podrophenia 2, a summertime special from Piley and myself (plus a few offstage heckles from his cat) which sees us navigating our musical charabanc through literal, lateral and loose interpretations of summer. By way of songs written around haystacks, hayfever, beach buggies, caravans and rain. Along with random gabble about buses, bacon, 'would patrons kindly refrain' pool signs and Piley's discovery of the Deliverance Olympics.

You can download below

Podrophenia 2

stream here (whoops the Divshare link is broken)

Or try via iTunes

One of these two lung-busters belts out a scorching version of 'Sunny' in the poddy.

Back soonish

  1. Well, I listened to the last one at the gym and this one last night after a few bevvies at the pub and... it's even better!!

Top range of tunes as usual - and I even began to appreciate the bass playing in Rain after pretty much ignoring it god knows how many times in the past.

You and Piley asked for other summer tunes and I can't resist mentioning 'Sketch for Summer' by the Duretti Column or well, loads of stuff by XTC.

Have a top holiday. Off anywhere nice?

  2. That is so weird ~ I had a Durutti conversation only yesterday and Sketch for Summer was discussed.
Vini Reilly didn't know about middle sections when he recorded it in his studio it has been said.

Summer in the City by the Lovin Spoonful has to be up there or Summat from Pet Sounds defo. This thread could run & run & run ....

  3. You're too kind Cocktails - I don't think we had the 'first night nerves' quite so badly on this one. The key moment on Rain is just after that break near the close, when the drums and bass roll back in - a few secs of perfection.

Don't know the Durruti's but will check - XTC how did I miss that, Summer's Cauldron, I'd Like That..

PS chap in the photo is Alan Hawkshaw..from Heat Of The Morning and Mony Mony - who also appears on your Music for Dancefloors
    top tip

Summer In The City (I've got a version by Tim Curry from Rocky Horror somewhere) - Beach Boys all good Choco perhaps we'll have to do a 'Last Of The Summer Finds'

  4. I figured that might be Alan Hawkshaw, but never knew what he looked like. Very 70s is the answer!

  5. There's a touch of Daniel Craig about him isn't there?

Have you checked Alan's Champ what a winner (I'll have to squeeze that one in at some point)

PS week at home, then a week just outside Southwold - Adnams brewery, the UKs best chippy in Aldeburgh, the chance of Eno-spotting in Woodbridge what a peach of a place

  6. I'll sign up at I tunes. PM.
elsewhere you mentioned you've backed up your blog how do you do this?

  7. Another cracker fellas, prefer the selection of tunes this time round. Can't beat a bit of Jesse Hector, the more people that latch onto him the better.
Bring on Podrophenia 3, any ideas for a theme yet.

I have a Pop Quiz question for Bleecher and Lil (it's ok it's polite):
What is the name of the club in that Marc Almond song where he's 'standing in the door'?
Don't know? (never/rarely heard of it, or, been there even). Oh, ok, it,s the Pink Flamingo.

  25. Chum PM? dunno. In 'Friends' they did share, True. Episode where they threw the address book off the balcony seemed far fetched, but s'pose it could happen. What inspired or was the catalyst for the last episode of 'Friends'. Not just Davy Jones being in it, was it?
    (bees, honey, yay got it)

  26. Number 3 should be appearing in a couple of weeks BL, not that we've recorded it yet - any ideas for themes let us know..
