Your Starter For Ten

Happy New Year bloggers, blogettes and browsers. Hope you had a goody without overindulging too much. How are you naming new year? Personally I can't bring myself to say twenty ten, so it'll be the large format two thousand and ten for me..

We had The Elms Annual CD Swap last week, where a few music loving ol' gits ( Coops, Piley and I, plus others) got together for a few scoops and to swap CDs of our handpicked highlights from 2009. My selection box was probably too heavy on the vintage vibes rather than new finds, but one name that cropped up across comps was the Yeah Yeah Yeahs It's Blitz, an album that's had regular run outs on my trusty ol' Creative Zen last year..

If you haven't heard It's Blitz yet, there's a taste test here..If you have, you may want to lend an ear to to this stripped down alt.take.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Soft Shock(Acoustic Version)

On a similarly wintery theme, why not try Nancy Wallace's folky refit of Cliff's hit..

  4. You too Markus any gigs planned Southend way for 2010?

It is a Max-suit perfect for the frosty evenings/mornings Davy. It was Karen O of the YYY's what did the soundtrack for Wild Things you see

And happy 2000 and 10 to you FC;)

  5. Nice Yeah Yeah Yeah's Mondo. You can get those suits here - adult-sized and very pricey! http://www.theirongategallery.com/Wild-Things-Adult-Wolf-Pajamas_p_602.html

  6. Both those pyjamas/jumpsuit and Nancy Wallace are a bit too twee for me. Surprising I know.

    Have you seen the movie?

  7. Yikes - I can't see me in one anyway Romo it might ruffle me 'rooster do'

No not seen it yet Cocktails, (or read the book, or tried the soundtrack) but I'm way behind with trips to the cinema.

  8. You haven't read the book?! What kind of a childhood did you have without that menacing classic?

BTW, The Southerner doesn't appear to be available on DVD. How annoying.

  9. Early years were Topsy and Tim, Dr Zeuss and comics. Junior School was: Magician's Nephew, Moomin series, Bottersnikes and Gumbles (which is quite collectable now), The Children of Green Knowe, pre-Quentin Blake Roald Dahl, comics and collected Peanuts. But no, never Wild Things

PS you can grab Southerner clips on youtube I think.

  10. No wild things? I've already bought a copy for the little fella for when he's old enough to read a book without eating it!!

  11. Seen the Yeah Yeah Yeahs live, Mondo? You should, if not. She's brilliant - really interacts with the fans (who are mainly seventeen year old girls who want to be just like her. If I was seventeen, I would too. Even down to the fluffy jumpsuit.).

And I'm with the "2010"-ers. A happy one to you.

  15. I've seen Wild Things just never grabbed it Simon. My two loved Richard Scarry, Dr Zeuss and Topsy and Tim - but get the vintage versions(the artwork's much better).

Seen them on TV ISB, never live though. I expected her to be a moody ol' bird, but came as across as really chirpy and smiley.

You'll find it, and some other acoustic versions, on the Deluxe Edition, which is well worth grabbing Gabbi.

If It's Blitz tickled your tastebuds P, You'll probably like Royksopp's Junior too

Happy New Doo Dah to you too F-Ron, I can feel myself slipping across to the 2010 side already you know..
