Countdown to Christmas Pt 2 - New Wave Nativity

Still feeling rough, raggy and rotten, but managed to drag myself out of sick bay to long enough to load up two more seasonal sing a longs.

The Three Wise Men - Thanks for Christmas
Thanks for Christmas - b/w Countdown to Christmas (what does b/w stand for - backed with?). Was the 1983 XTC Xmas single released under pseudonym The Three Wise Men. Writing credits went to Kaspar, Melchior and Balthazar, and production credits went to The Three Wise Men and The Good Lord. TGL may not have interrupted his busy seasonal schedule and pitched in on production if he'd known XTC would return the favour by recording Dear God two years later.

Aimee Mann once managed to coax Andy Partridge out of live retirement and into a rare onstage appearance in 1993 along with XTC guitarist Dave Gregory, who has regularly appeared as Aimee's guitarist of choice for session and live work. This is her take on the Dr Seuss Christmas classic

Thanks - Brian Setzer does a version too. I'm a terror for a tinsel tune

I was pleasantly suprised by the Three Wise Men track I must say. Would have preferred 'Making Plans for Jesus' but I guess that would have given the game away !

EF - There'll be more Christmas bits from my seasonal selection box next week. So why not have a peep back then too.

I really need to get that Aimee Mann record from eMusic. I was lucky enough to meet her and the rest of 'til tuesday waaaaaaaaay back in 1985. I have an autographed copy of "Voices Carry" to prove it.

For the record, b/w does indeed stand for "backed with". c/w probably stands for "coupled with" or "combined with". Either one sounds as good as the other...

as far as XTC and their various alter egos, can't go wrong!

I would strongly recommend Low's Christmas album. It has some wonderful slow-core Christmas treats including a great fuzzed up version of 'Little Drummer Boy'.

The song is their one and only claim to wider fame as it was used in a Gap Christmas ad one year. Check it out.

I've heard a couple of mentions about the Low Christmas album - will have to get on that one.
