Funky Friday - Animal Crackers
Is it possible to build an audio ark, a musical menagerie, a funky farm, a zound zoo..
*goes on like this for several hours*
of animals celebrated in soul stompsters and sizzlers?
Well, for starters, here's a few beauties and beasties racing straight out of the traps...
If you only have the chance to check out one of these tunes Please. Please. Please check out the 'Funky Chicken' nugget, not just for the most eye blinding explosion of spectacular clobber ever seen at any single event.
But also the collective display of shaking, strutting and group frugging - it's like Heronymous Bosch flash mobbing..
Rufus Thomas - The Funky Chicken (from Wattstax)
Billy Preston - The Octopus
Los Gatos Negros - Hey Hey Bunny
Syko and The Caribs - Do The Dog
Bernard Purdie - Funky Donkey
Rufus Thomas - Walking The Dog

There is man at 1:05 on the Funky Chicken clip wearing a pink waistcoat with matching pink loons trouser suit!!
I love The Funky Chicken. My best mate's mum had a copy of the single and I can remember laughing like a drain one afternoon when me and him bunked school and listened to that over and over.
"This is the kind of stuff
To make you feel like you
Want to do something nasty
Like waste some chicken gravy"
Davey - that's almost as snappy as Rufus's pink culottes (which he wears revives for 'Walking The Dog' in the second clip)
Personal faves are ..
The his 'n' hers hoe down outfits at 3:39.
The patchwork all in one hotpants at 4:27 which get me doing the funky chicken'
Simon - It is tasty piece of finger lickin' funk. I shoved it on at a do last year - went down a treat.
Oh for the Goodies Funky Gibbon - a classic. Thanks for the memory mate.
Outstanding, PM. Another excellent mix of sound and video to kick off the weekend on a groovy note.
"Hey Bunny Bunny" is a personal favorite of mine.
Oh yes, that Rufus Thomas one is howling good. On a bit of a soul/gospel/jazz bent 'round my way this lazy Friday.
Glad it's it the spot for you all. I'm sure there's legs in the funky creature feature idea (unlike Rufus's troos) and must be more animals to add to the collection.
I'm with BA on 'Bunny' it's probably my best of breed from this lot, that and 'The Octopus'
That Bernard Purdie sure could play the skins, couldn't he? A peerless session cat, he can be heard funking up the joint on Aretha's 70s recordings, including the great "Bridge Over Troubled Waters".
With you all the way on Bernard Purdie Nanks - thisis one of my fave clips - I don't think I've ever seen anyone who loves their job so much
what no 'Can your Pussy Do The Dog' by the Cramps??! Two animal mentions for the price of one - and a crackin song too!
