Give Us A Clouseau

Matt from Worksopp wrote in last week - asking do I have 'Joe Loss's version of 'Shot In The Dark'? Yes Matt, I do. It's on the Mondo iBlock, and now on the blog..

Joe Loss Orchestra - A Shot In The Dark

'A Shot In The Dark' is Henry Mancini's theme from the second Pink Panther film, although it's perhaps better known as a musical motif used during the Inspector sequences of the Pink Panther cartoon show. Joe Loss's take is a big-band, twang-o-ramic swinger starring a guitar-a-go-go freak out from legendary sixties session man Big Jim Sullivan(Tom Jones's guitarist and aka Lord Sitar)

And as a bonus here's Hugo Montenegro's version of Our Man Flint, a versh that almost made the recent the 'Spy' post, but was pipped by Herbie Mann's flutey tootings..

Our Man Flint

PS there's more Joe Loss here if you fancy it..

Ah, I'm glad you were able to sort him out (assuming Matt from Worksopp is the Anon who requested this over at mine). Top info on the Jones/Lord Sitar link there PM.

Cool post. It's great to have some Pink Panther and Flint on one day. Great tunes.

The Joe Loss version is spectacular. So very atmospheric and grand but in a sinister way.
They don't write them like they used to.

sounds like you're in 'double O heaven' Keith *winces at painfulness of his own pun*

Killer isn't it Istv, and Big Jim's Lord Sitar cover of The Who's 'I can See For Miles' is well worth tracking down...

cheers fella, not disappointed; can't remember wot you dug out for me before either think it may have been Billy Childish related tho.
Echoing Davy with the info remark, Big Jim wow really didn't know he played on this, sigh... sad that I should need to.........

Great songs, I'm especially fond of the Joe Loss Orchestra's 'A Shot In The Dark'... I grew up on both the Pink Panther and Inspector Clouseau! xo

No probs Matt - yes I think it was Billy Childish's Dad's Army theme..

Great isn't it Gabbi? I can imagine someone using it as music for magic tricks too

Great toon PM!! Wish it had the other bit that used to get used in the cartoon a lot... not a furious as this track sounds, it's a stripped back slower version, usually playing in the background when the inspector was thinking aloud.

Here's one for you, I love the Pink Panther cartoons (a spin off from the movies), I love the Inspector Clouseau cartoons (a spin off from the movies, natch)... but i HATE the movies!!! I've tried time and time again to get into them, but find them long and boring!
