My First Vinyl Rip!
Phew what a slog lumbering back to business-as-usual after two weeks slumbering around in a laid back state of lazy days, lay-ins and beach-bumming. Southwold is an absolute gem, Walberswick is wonderful but windy and Aldeburgh is King's Road on sea (apparently it's become something of summer playground for the Rock, Cowes and Salcombe set)
But to put some gloss on the gloom, after a five year mission of trawling record shops, antique markets and online auction houses, to seek out the early seventies obscurity that is Head Hands and Feet - Warming Up The Band I finally managed to get my ol' mitts on a copy recently.
I've been trying to track down 'Warming', since discovering it through the excellent Old Grey Whistle Test DVDs. Thanks to a tip off from Ben Soundhog, I pipped a copy on ebay. And what a snip too, £4.99 instead of the Collectors Guidebook value - £25 (although I could've grabbed the demo disc version, with a deliciously diff' Island label for an extra 50p half an hour later).
So what better way to celebrate my first vinyl rip, than by uplumping this tricky-to-track nugget in the blog...
Head Hands and Feet - Warming Up The Band
It's A Pop Quiz - HHF's bass player is better known as one half of a seventies/eighties light entertainment duo - but who is he? You'll hear him at the tail end of the verses on the 'woah mama' section..
You can lend an ear to Don Everley's refit of Warming Up The Band here...

Hey there. I'm glad you had a good time away. You deserved it. That's so cool you were able to get your hands on this. I had never heard it before. It sounds really awesome. Thanks for sharing it with us. Have a good week ahead. Cheers!
Thanks for that Keith - a couple of days back at work and it's like I've never been away. Ho hum! Watch out for 'Warming' though it's very hooky, and gets easily lodged in your noggin..
You have to go easy on the Adnams Broadside Suzy it's over 6% you know..
good to have you back Sir!
I think i know the answer, but only because i've heard you talk about trying to get this album before!! So I won't rabbit on and spoil it, someone's bound to have the answer in the sideboard there somewhere...
P
Thanks P, and a few Clues there too..
Whoops I've only just realised - I haven't posted the actual track in the blog-bit! Sorted now.
I do believe it's Chas Hodges later of Chas N Dave. He's been around, i think he was in a band with Ritchie Blackmore one time (The Outlaws ?? i think). Not a bad number , good player Albert Lee. I wish i could rip vinyl , i got loads.
Liked the track. I can never remember which one was which in the duo but i think it was Mr. Hodges. Strange story but I only remember it because Jackie Lynton mentioned it at one of his 24 and a half year plastic anniversary gigs at the Greyhound in Fulham a good few years ago. I saw the famous duo opening for Quo at Crystal Palace on the end of the road tour. They were pretty good and despite the fact that it was pouring with rain they got everybody up singing and dancing.
Well done Carl it is Chas from Chas and Dave, and I think he teamed up with Ritchie Blackmore when they backed Jerry Lee Lewis on a UK tour back in the sixties - if it's vinyl ripping your after get one of these - a portable deck that rips via USB just £50 earth pounds..it's what I use.
Bang on again Martin - Chas and Dave were playing at a music fest near us in Suffolk last week, wish I'd gone now after your match report
PS for Suzy - you can drop me a line at planetmondo@gmail.com about any blog related bits and bobs you'd be interested in.
Thanks for the heads up, i'm planning to get a new PC before the end of the year and i'll try and include funds to get one of these too. Is the quality any good ?? one of my mates was saying he felt they not all that ???. Martin i too saw Chas N Dave at Crystal Palace supporting Quo and they were indeed great ,so was Dave Edmunds that day i remember.
Haven't had a problem with the quality Carl. The Ion model comes with a built in speaker, which is a bit tranny sounding - but old records made for transistor radios sound fab.
Having said that there's a line out option to run through any stereo aux input hi-fi's docking stations etc.. and that sounds really punchy.
The rip quality isn't bad either, give the tune a blast for a taste test
I'd grab one sharpish though most other models in the link above are selling out.
Awesome song Mondo! I'm a fan of good cowbell... seriously :) Glad to have you back.

damn yes - you had me at the crackly intro and then the glorious cowbell. i do feel i should be weaering a kneckerchief along to this too. and a collarless shirt. bloomin marvelous.
and here's to a a big bright vinyly future
x
You've got a great point Gabbi - has there ever been a bad record with a cowbell on it? And what a theme for a podcast unusual instruments on songs, or that enhance songs.
Imran that's the sort of hi-randomness that's right up my street - I'll be in touch..
And a three button grandad shirt too Ally - I must post more funk rock.
meant to say... i liked the track. There's a bit in it, the crunchy keyboard bit, that reminds me of Vive Le Rock by Adam Ant...
Is the rest of the album as good as this track?
P
Great track isn't P - sorta Stonesy, dunno about the album though goes for anywhere between £40 and £120 depending on condition. Did you try the Don Everly version for a variant
