Postcard by Juliet Blaxland
Following a week of local based bumbling: pubs, beaches and bikes - for the next week it's Southwold here we come (isn't that a Smiths album?)
If you've never visited, the highlights include: Suffolk's tea colured sea, the Adnams brewery, Aspall's Suffolk Cyder, the Southwold Picture Palace, the pier, crabbing in Walberswick, one of the UK's finest chippies rated Number One (here) just a nip away in Aldeburgh, - and Southwold's high street lighthouse. But like Mrs PM says - why the high street? Aren't lighthouses meant to be on a rocky outcrop, spit or somesuch - not plonked next to the pub and brewery surely?
If you've never visited why not take a taste test here - Southwold tour
PS We're not leaving until tomorrow - but I'm bored of usual holiday tunes (XTC, Beatles, Monty Python albums) having played them too many times - so any recommendations for must have holiday listens would be appreciated..
So, I'll leave you with Two summer soundalikes that were on my subs bench for the last Podrophenia..
Jack Costanzo - Peter Gunn Mambo
Dave 'Baby' Cortez - Watermelon Man
And a guest mix which should be appearing on The Right Side Of Funky sometime over the weekend
See you in week's time and I'll try to send a postcard..
Not sure about that manky mud-pier, nothing more scenic in the vaults then?

You've got 'Summer Holiday' I hope? Although whether 'we've seen it in the movies, now let's see if it's true' applies to Southwold I'm not sure.
I do like a pint of Adnam's.
I can even find a place in my heart for manky muddy piers, to be honest.
Enjoy!

Haven't got Summer Holiday Davy, although it's likely to be showing at the Southwold Picture Palace - the Adnams brewery always has a few specials on offer, so plenty of sipping to be done - and Aspalls Premier Cru cider is a delight.
Top of the form Bleech - will grab plenty of 'em. How about Sufjan Stevens or Sigur Ros worth a wallop?
Sigur Ros's album Takk is probably the best one for driving to: it's the one the Sigur Ros purists reckon is the weakest, but I love it, big and melodic.
I'd also pack the latest Madness album, if you can get hold of the 22 track version, the extra tracks are worth their weight in gold. From the whole album I'd recommend Sugar And Spice, NW5 and Africa. Africa in particular is cut from similar cloth to Yesterday's Men and is quite possibly my favourite song by Madness ever. Gorgeous stuff.
Have a good un!

Hello,
Lurked for a bit via Davy H, but couldn't resist appeal for tunes: "Next Year In Zion" by Herman Dune is very good for long drives with the sun on your arms.
Just checked Hermans on Myspace Argot, and am grabbing Zion now ta for the tip..
I'm with Bleecher, you must have The Bees for any Summer driving. I've got all 3 CDs and a comp they did choosing their favourites. If you need any of them you can burn copies when you pop round tonight for vinyl and sips on the patio.
Marvellous will grab later Coops -
HOLIDAY UPDATE - car's sorted:dodgy, battery (but the doors keep locking and unlocking themselves)
Hope I'm not too late with this Mond - burn, don't crash x
Your holiday plans look and sound amazing!
Also loved 'Peter Gunn Mambo'... thank you so much for sharing!
Sending you a favorite of mine (just in case you don't already have it):

Thanks Davy and Gabbi - just caught me, and I've managed to whack Holidays and Honey into the summer bundle - you're stars
One word about Southwold: AUTOFRISK!
Hope you're enjoying Suffolk and the car is behaving. Over at http://pinhead45.blogspot.com/ I've done a rather nice sketch of my record box as a tribute to lazy evenings sitting on the patio quaffing beer and listening to 7"s.
Hi there...
Been way too long, but I can see there's plenty to keep my mind well occupied while I take a break from midterm studies.
I just loved the Paperback believer mashup...
Come by for my latest batch of 45 rpm soul.
Thank you, Mr. Mondo. :D
Peace and blessings.
Very cool. I hope you have a fantastic time. I'm sure you will. Take care. Have fun. Cheers!
