Here's One I Made Earlier

I don't usually post home made tunes, in fact I've only tried it once before. But, given last minute glimmers of gold and green leaves can still be glimpsed before all fades to grey, and this autumn inspired acoustic tune popped into play on my Creative Zen last week, it seems appropriate to give it an airing.

Should you choose to lend an ear, a couple of things to point out on the playing: It's a very rough sketch of an idea, recorded about four years ago using one guitar.

The guitar is tuned to DADGAD. A tuning popularised by Davey Graham

It's a first or second take recording, so prepare for clunkiness in places

Typically I tend to play too fast, so it's a shade speedier than it needs to be

For a full bodied recording, the following would need to be added
;
Second guitar (12 string see above), acoustic bass, some sort of soft shuffle rhythm and a lead acoustic for the skippity riff.

Country Acoustic

Hey there. Wow. I really like it. It sounds good to me. You should definitely post more of these if you have it. Hope your week started off well. Cheers!

Very nice, but you're not singing!

Thank you all, you've soothed my shattered nerves after the first trip the dentists in five years..

Davy you're not the sort of bloke that leaves washers and pesatas in a chap's busking cap are you?

No one has ever heard me sing Cocktails. My parents offered me money as teen (enough to buy several albums)to hear my singing voice, and I still wouldn't budge..

Hey, I thought you sounded great. It was really good. :) I play the piano so it is great to hear other musicians. :)

Sounds lovely...maybe I could sing something over the top? (Or completely ruin it with a piano accompaniment?) xx

nice one Mondo, liked that... very chilled. Look forward to a live rendition at the recording of the next poddy!

Very nice Mondo, more please.

Thanks Stephanie. I'd love to play piano, but it's just too fiddly for a get-by guitarist like me.

I thought you'd have got bored stiff of hearing me clanging around the house? But yes, would be lovely to turn it into a Mr and Mrs duet x

If you bring the tambourine or triangle P, you're on.

Don't tempt me Drew! I may post another piece of ruff-stuff, around the time of the New York Dolls gig later this year (all will become clear)

one day i'll learn pedal steel which i think would go quite nicely on this - just a little near the end maybe.

Ally that would be perf'. The tune was hugely influenced by the feel of this album - which is primarily acoustics and pedal steel - 'mazing!

What a beauty.

I'm a bit twitchy about clonking anything in the blog usually, but this seemed to fit the mood of the moment. It won't happen often I haven't recorded anything for years, so there's not much in the tanks..

Thanks Adam, perhaps I'll try and work it up properly for next years autumn mix.

That's really beautiful! The few spots where you lost the tempo actually add a touch of realism to it and give it character. I can feel the emotion you put in your playing, too. Very, very nice! I agree with the others; post more if you can!

Beautiful song Mondo! I'm so glad you decided to share it with us... it's going on my itunes favorites now!!♥

Mondo said...

Thanks Joe, that's why I need a 'click' track underneath 'A steady rhythm is the source' as Eno once said.

Purple's a great mag Carrie thought it would be up your fashionable avenue..

Hopefully I'll have a full fat version for you by next autumn Gabbi
