Me and my SHADO

Did you ever have a Dinky Interceptor ?

Now, I'm not typically given to Fortean type mysteries and mumbles - but wouldn't it be just smashing if,  ex-NORAD bod Stanley Fulham's predictions of ....

A. There will be a major UFO display over Moscow between the end of the first part
of January 2011 and the second week of January 2011.

B. Followed by a major display over London approximately seven-days later.

Actually came to hill of moonbeans - with some silvery outer spacers a'hovering Dr Who style over London town...(Perhaps similar to the flying Dorito seen looming over Red Square). Unless of course, it's the style of green-skinned, contact wearing omni-bothering space bandits that gave Ed Straker and his SHADO chums such an almighty run around...

To his credit Stanley is the same chap who predicted 'UFOs' over New York on October 13th.. last year...

Barry Gray - UFO theme (Alt Version)

Two versions of the UFO theme in this clip...

Why not nip over to  London Lee's  for a few more ET tunes...and as a bonus lend your lugs to Tom Middelton's walloping War of the Worlds remix

Jeff Wayne - Eve of the War (Tom Middleton Mix/Mondo Edit)

Gotta love those Anderson designs - almost equal to any of the Star Wars techno gear and gadgetry

what a great series...

I never had any of the Dinky's mentioned - however my friends did and also my late brother-in-law had the SHADO2 (the tank looking one) my son inherited that as something he played with when a kid at my in-laws house.

I didn' t know that, that's really exciting. I love things like that!

I looked at the boxed set for UFO but decided against it at £55. Still in two minds though.

Love the theme it's properly exciting.

F-Ron:I've got the interceptor, the MPV (tank-thing), two Space 1999 eagles and full set of Spectrum cars - but never the Joe 90 car or (off topic) the Pink Panther mobile - what a design that was. This is a great site for pricing up your old toys..

Take the predictions with a high salt content FC, but you never know? Having said that Stanley also claimed these would be his last predictions. He was right, and died a few weeks after making the London/Moscow announcment.

I'm a terror for a box set (The Sweeny, The Professionals, The Persuaders, Captain Scarlet) but rarely complete them. Yes £55 is a bit steep even with the lovely Gabrielle Drake in a purple wig

Oh, that theme has done me the power of good on a grey old morning. Thanks!

We had the Interceptor, it was a thing of beauty. And I'll never forget the evening when one of my big sisters' boyfriends came to collect her in a genuine Jensen. It was the talk of the neighbourhood...

Loved UFO. Loved the girls in those outfits too. God bless ITC.

If you want the box sets F-C, try ebay (Zavvi store) or Amazon. You should be able to pick up vols 1-4 in one set and 5-8 in another for £30-£33 all in. Well worth a look, as the story lines are mostly pretty good. "Dark", even a bit "Edgy", as people like to say these days.

Great weren't they ISB - I got mine as a consolation prize (1971) after falling down our holiday caravan steps. The very same holiday where my mum walked into a caravan and pinched a man's bum (thinking it weas dad) only to realise she'd bounced into the wrong accomodation

Funny you say that OP. I remember catching the epi where Ed Straker's son gets run over, when it was shown at the time. ITV 3 repeated a few years back and I could remember every moment of the accident after a 40 year gap - incredible, must have made some impression..

I have SHADO 2 but me phallic rocket's missing.

Mine too - and the tyre tracks. Same with the rockets that fired from the back of my Batmobile (dad improvised with matchstick bits though)

And I lost Captain Blue from the SPV deep into the Christmas tree the very day I got the blooming thing.

The voice of Captain Blue, purple hair and George Sewell wearing mascara! And don't forget the Dave Stewart/Candy Dulfer remix. In UFO Gerry Anderson created genuine TV heaven.

The voice of Captain Blue, purple hair, George Sewell wearing mascara, (Lift Off With) Ayesha (Brough) and sound effects that scared the living sh*t out of you. In UFO Gerry Anderson really did create TV heaven. And don't forget the rather splendid Dave Stewart/Candy Dulfer remix. Drop me aline if you want a copy.

I think Fortean should be correctly used to describe the cataloguing of anomalous phenomena, with a fair degree of scepticism towards the explanations of the material whether orthodox or otherwise.
I had the Shado, it was my favourite toy for many years even though at the time I had no concept of the programme, which was a real mystery.

Nice work Cusp ~ I'll have to check out the value of some of my ol' bits, toys and ol' tut..

Yes that sorta sums my take on Stanley's UFO forecasts M4SK

I too had the SHADO (still about somewhere), but why-o-why-o-why did they make the METALIC GREEN??!! I never understood that. When I was in my teens I picked up another SHADO at a charity shop or jumble sale (NOTE: do they still have jumble sales? not seen a sign for one in years), and carefully painted it the correct colours, thus instantly making it a worthless collectors item, but strangely satisfying!

I thought we were being invaded on New Years Eve when I looked up and saw hundreds of glowing lights in the sky... never mix Champers and Chinese lanterns...

Mondo said...

Yeah true about that P and why did Dinky/Corgi change Thunderbird 2 to blue in later editions~ remember that?

Heard from a taxi driver ol' Chinese lanterns caused a few local 999/UFO calls a while back

Word veri= firebl (as in XL5}

God how I wish I had kept any of my toys, I had an Interceptor and Shado 2. I remember there being a big to do about radioactive waste when I was a kid and it was to do with the containers you got with one of the Space 1999 Eagles
