Word in Your Attic. David Hepworth, Mark Ellen and M'self have a collective natter going from Abbey Road to Zodiac Mindwarp

One of the earliest entries on this blog involved Batman 222 wherein the Caped Crusader investigates a 'Paul is Dead' type mystery - September 2007 to carbon date the actual post.. A few weeks later it appeared in Word mag' ish 56, after a very generous offer from Mark Ellen to write 250 words on it...

Fast forward 13 years and a fantasticus chat was had with David and Mark for a birthday treat.
In forty five mins, we cover: rock stars in unlikely places - comics. football programmes, Rod Temperton's dodgy toplines. The sky-high value of collectable comics.

My Radio 1 calendar/diary, with odd singles bought during this period, and tales including - Radio Luxembourg Roadshow comes to Southend - with  m'self and pals getting  drunk on crate of Crocodillo I won doing the pop quiz.  Naked neighbors displaying. Dressing up as KISS at the School Arts Festival... and of course records bought

You can grab full timeline of diaries here

And risk Rod Temperton doing Rock With You below

To Westcliff-on-Sea where our celebrating patron offers highly entertaining memories of the "white stiletto crowd" at the Lacey Lady in Ilford, the Fickle Pickle Folk Club in Southend, a 'Paul Is Dead' Batman comic, Toni Basil's effect on a Bowie sleeve, Petula Clark, Sex Pistols ads, a Goofy Greats compilation and the Ladykillers at the Pink Toothbrush ("Altamont meets the Muppet Show") - and we play Southend Stackwaddy and guess the psychedelic album that starts with a foghorn.

Podrophenia No Theme with Rob Glazebrook and Pete Zear

There was so much to load into this month's Podrophenia - rock, roll, punk, blues, dodgy disco and perfect pop we didn't even have the space to squeeze in a theme....

Rob Glazebrook gives us the news on his R 'n' R festival taking place at The Railway in September - spins in a freshly pressed Broadkasters single - and DJs some crackers from his own record collection

Kev Daintree and Pete Zear swing in to give us the info and spin in Pete's '79 single Tomorrow's World (featuring The Ruts on rhythm section, Alf and Susan Ryder Paget on backing vox) produced by Rat Scabies - which has now been rerecord by tranarchist glam-punks T Bitch

Not-so-Tiny Piley brings us up to speed with his summer travels, train tips and takes over the decks for a couple of recommended records Ian Piley and I pitch in with a disco refit of Pink Floyd, and a cut from the new David Woodcock album Fill up your listening lugs below

Podrophenia - Vinyl Finds and Lucky Dips

July's Podrophenia is a broadcast of two halves. In act 1 Mondo plays all new (to him) vinyl finds, while special guest Luke Mersey is laying down some digital goodies.

Then it's half time change ends while Luke gets to double decking, and Mond' presses playon the laptop.

And there's a niche don't judge a song by it's sleeve. Mayfair Train of Love in this case... ..

Style-wise it's a giddy mix of yacht rock, funky covers, nu-disco, nu-blues, urban grooves, NY Punk revisited and protest funk..

Podrophenia - the Beardophenia special...

Tonight's edition of Podrophenia is themed around the riff of beards and general hirsutery.

Beard bands will be on the playlist from all genres: rock, funk, country.
Beard-band puns will be on the roll-out: Pete Sideburns, David Soulpatch, Johnny Tache

For balance we have Mandy Casley chief of the Beard Police coming in with the pitch

The Beard Police are fed up with looking at fellas with a face full of fuzz. Let's change that. Get your razors out and show us your faces!

And standby for action as we announce the release of the third single on the Podrophenia label, by a band with an all star line-up, and a one off gig in Southend

There's a fruity new feature as a pals from The Funk Pen select a fatbacked tune for this month's theme (see below)

Also in for chat and natters are Canvey's newest rockers Double Headed Jester.

We go live at 8pm on Ship Full of Bombs - and feel free to chip in with chat via Chatwing

Rock and Roller Disco

It's the first Sunday session of the year at Southend's Railway Hotel - with an afternoon jam from Martin McNeill and the Bottletop Blues Band. I haven't heard the news of who's on board for the hullabaloo yet. But Jazz ledge Digby Fairweather turned up for a toot or two at the last bash...

As has become a Sunday standard I'll be nipping in the tunes around and between the bands. Surprisingly, tunes with a disco twist (AWB, KC and the Sunshine Band, Chic) have become the surprise hit floor shakers since the end of December.

Although this week, having picked up a spectacularly generous Chuck Berry Chess box (seventy five tracks for six english) I may be going heavy on the Berry to begin with....

Should you be round or about from four - come and stake a space on the The Railway dance floor - you could hear anything from Chuck Berry to disco boogie.

12 x 12: Sex, Drugs & Sweet Perversions

A new monthly feature starts on the blog today 12 by 12. Twelve 12" singles posted by 2012. You'll know most of them - not that I'm entirely sure what 'most of them' will be yet. But it's a playlist that's sure to shape up with a few extended rarities, oddities and possibly, in some cases - classics..

We'll kick off with a 1979 double A-sider bagged just a few months back - Patrick Duvet, who, until last week I thought was Patrick 'I Love America' Juvet: the whispy-pitched, dungaree lovin' Friso-Disco star. Apparently not though...so any info on this Patrick (Duvet) please shout!

My guess - he's French: Disques Clouseau label and sleeve notes en francais.. and is it me or would these two tracks make a perfect fit for some Scissor Sisters style swishery...
