Funky Friday - Spin The Wheel Of Four-Tunes

My trusty ol' Creative Zen Xtra (otherwise known as the iBlock), currently runs to a total of 11220 tracks and 1889 albums. So what would happen if I cued up three FF friendly 'genres' - Funk - Northern Soul - Disco hit the shuffle button then retired to a safe distance to catalogue the first four tunes as they fire off? Well, this I suppose....

Nina Simone - Some Say

Oh yes this is good, we're kicking off with a cork-popper, an unknown nugget, which, I've never heard before, but am loving more by the minute. It's swishy, swinging and just right for Friday.Premier Cru funk.

D'oh!

Other Brothers - Hole In The Wall

Phew the fizz went flaccid for a moment but we're back on track. Thank God for the OB's whoever they are (add a bonus point for a Batman reference in the lyrics - nice). Another oddity and obscurity I never knew was tucked away on the player.

Shirley Ellis - Sugar, Let's Shing-A-Ling

Fantistico - just the sort crash, bang, wallop-big brassy finish you want, but could never plan. And taken from the very same album as the Nina Simon opener - really, what are the chances?

Yes these are the actual tracks captured as they happened, no selective skipping or stealthy swerving occurred at any point in this experiment.

Scores On The Doors

Funk - 2
Northern Soul - 1
Disco - 1

Man Of The Match - Other Brothers for steering us back to safety

You're a brave man Mondo.

Love that Sarah Brightman clip though. Pure class.

Oh, and the Shirley Ellis stompers not so bad either...

There is a mood of Russian roulette when you first press the random button Cocktails - although I'd been hoping for some tasty disco biscuits like Giorgio, Donna Summer, Kaygees or somesuch. Had to be Hot Gossip though didn't it. (there's no download link as I didn't think anyone would be that tempted)

I may try a battle of the bands type arrangement four bods or bands, and see who gets the most plays out of four tunes...

Oh, I did enjoy 'Startrooper'...

I expect you have the routine down pat.

'mazing! I was convinced 'trooper' would be the rough in the diamonds - I've got the clobber but not the moves. Will be working on busting these this weekend

Hot Gossip were quite something in the in the UK around the late seventies early eighties Keith but never as hot as Pan's People though...

That sounds my sorta night Ally - did he play Hard Times or Rock and Roll?I've been steady with the sips lately, must do something about that

It could have been a LOT, LOT worse P, my guilty pleasure albums tucked away on the Block(and only Cocktails knows what that is)

I'm sure that everyone would be very supportive should you ever wish to come out about your guilty pleasure PM. And if you're not embarrassed by Hot Gossip, then well, you could admit to almost anything!

BTW, my folks were over your way in sunny Southend yesterday - they said that they had a lovely time (and where dutifully impressed by the length of the pier).

I may 'out myself' about the GP perhaps later this year Cocktails - I don't mind the Goss' but had been hoping something, well, more chic I guess, and did affect a theatrical gulp hearing it straight after Nina Simone

Southend you say ?'Longest in the World' that pier. If they pop down again I'd recommend Old Leigh about 3 miles east. A gorgeous little fishing village, all cobbles and cocklesheds. The Mayflower a combi chippy and pub is my fave place at the mo, and a ten minute cycle ride from Mondo Towers
