Run For Cover It's A Piley And Mondo Podcast

Who he? Find out in Podrophenia

Great Scott it's a podcast! Yes Podrophenia the first in an occasional series of oddcasts from Piley and myself wherein where cue up some themed tunes and generally jabber about a bit. The flavour of the day is 'cover versions'. So what can you expect to hear amid the random banter as we dig through our respective record collections? well, tracks like ...

The original hi-raunch version of One Night reworked by Marc Almond

Mission Impossible as you've never heard it before

Metallica remade for swinging and finger-clicking

Blur covering Rod Stewart

Rod Stewart covering Oasis

Bob Dylan goes garage..

Podrophenia is unscripted, unedited(ish) and available for stream or download right here..

Podrophenia 1

The audio embed has gone pop - but you can listen via itunes above

Oh and the opening theme, which I forgot to credit is The Mohawks - Mony Mony

bumbling at its finest......

Mondo said...

We've given you a shout out for 'inspiration' Col

Perhaps we should have called it 'Nevermind The Bumblers' Any suggestions for future themes Bleech?

stuff from your birthyear, album openers, cameos, song titles with numbers in them, stolen riffs, dead rock stars, drum solos, single only releases, bongo madness, specific labels (motown, 2 tone, creation, atlantic etc), 3 pieces,

shall i go on?????

I left comments about this on your other blog. I did want to see that I loved it. Great job.

Top drawer ideas Bleech - I thought of 'team-ups' this morning, and we may be doing a 'summer' set soon..
Drum Solo's! - ermm, we'll get back to you on that one

Thanks Keith glad you enjoyed it, hope the estuary accents didn't cause too much confusement

Can't decide whether you remind me more of Gervais & Merchant or the rambly bits where 'Kev' Rowland talks to the guitar player on 'Don't Stand Me Down'. Strangely moving.

Mondo said...

I'm all for Buddy Rich Bleech - it's the 30 minute version Zepp's Moby Dick I'm thinking of..

Good on you Keith don't forget to check back for the 'summer special' coming soon

Ta Marm - you'll have step up for a guest spot when we've settled in a bit

Or perhaps Bert and Ernie Davy ? We had a few flutters at first, but bedded in after a bit..PS don't forget - any ideas for themes post 'em here..

Oh wow, haven't been in the office all day and I get home to discover this!

I'm downloading a copy as we speak to liven up the train journey in tomorrow. Excellent stuff.

Piley said...

and here's my 5...

- red light spells danger

- where the streets have no name (a bugger to be driving a bus round that town... shit, tough gig..)

- on the road again

- King of the road

- Bus Stop by the Hollies

Right, that's show 2 in the can... ;-)

Oh and mondo, that is some 'wall' that Lee Moses is standing against!! When did TREES become referred to as walls then?? You've ruined the whole podcast!!

P

davyh said...

'The tress are walls' - that's some BAD ACID MAAAAAN.

Speaking of which, 'Magic Bus' by Ver 'Oo.

Mondo said...

I only saw it as thumbnail - honest! but you've given me a trigger for a another bus tune Davy - Bo Diddley Bad Trip (and of course Magical Mystery Tour)

Cocktails said...

Well Mondo, the verdict is: excellent train and gym listening.

That last garage track you played (can't remember the name) was excellent, as was the Lee Moses.

As I just wrote on Piley's blog, when's the next one?!

Cocktails said...

PS. That Senor Coconut album of Kraftwerk covers is excellent - should definitely make it on to a future podcast.

Mondo said...

Bless you Cocktails you're too kind - If you get to Spitalfields this week, track down the record man (the one selling Studio One CDs) you can grab Senor Coconut from him..look out for his three for tenner vinyl box and it's one of the latin collections in there, there's only about five titles in the offer so won't be hard to track down

PS next one will be in about 3 weeks

Anonymous said...

Oh, don't worry PM, I already own the Senor Coconut record - I'm recommending that you buy the full LP!

And I can't believe that I've not yet run into you at the market. I was there myself last Wednesday for quite a while. I will be listening out for your dulcet tones now at the next one.

I'm usually there about 1:30'ish

I'm based at Holborn for a bit, but may have a trot over Spits way this Friday..keep an eye out for a confused looking bloke with a rooster do that'll be me..

Hey guys great podcast, I went out for a early morning run so I thought I'd stick you on the i-Pod, loved the music and the chat. One thing, can you guys speak a bit louder or get nearer the microphone, the talking bits were too quiet. Cheers, look forward to the next one. BTW have you heard the Alabama 3's version of "These Boots Are Made For Walking"? Superb. ;-)

Right, try saying Smiley Lewis without giggling like a girl next time I see you.
You know I love a bit of Marc Almond, I saw him live more than any other act in the eighties, but that "One Night" is Circus Tavern pub singing at its worst surely!
Top marks for mumblin' a' a bumblin' though, great stuff.
