Throughout October Funky Friday will be seasonally adjusted to Freaky Friday. The tracks and tunes will feature all the usual foot-stomping and leg-shaking shenanigans, but with an added splash of fright-night flavouring until the beckoning bony finger of Halloween finally touches upon us.
Think of today's theme as a prelude for the fourth Piley and Mondo podcast(with you next week)..
I've no fear of the snake, but spiders - yikes alive! Will literally, have me both legs in air the 'Lords-a-leaping' style. And apparently the last two summers (one wet/one dry) have provided the perfect breeding conditions for the little scuttlers *gulps*
Tony Joe White - Stud-Spider
A saucy, plodding slice of Southern Soul meets Gumbo-Funk from the writer of Rainy Night In Georgia and Polk Salad Annie
Al Wilson - The Snake
A classic Northen Soul nugget first heard by me on this Ronco comp (although it actually had this tracklisting)
The Mondo Metal Years - I don't what's scarier the mullet or the Motley Crue tee
And a trick amongst the treats..
Jim Stafford - Spiders and Snakes

My Mum went through a faze of keeping tarantulas.
Jean had 9 terrariums in the living room, they had to be kept separate or else they would eat each other!
(It was an attempt to defeat her fear?)
I’ve got a perfect skin shed from “Ivan” with fangs, hairs, allsorts – They were fascinating…
I like the spidery tunes…
There is something quite disturbing about that Dolly Parton clip. It's putting me off my lunch.
As is that snake you've got wrapped around you there. Erk!
Lil that is truly terrifying *shudder*. I only let the tarantula crawl across my hand for a dare!
I thought coming from Australia Cocktails you'd be quite casual about these things (creepy crawlies, that is, not Dolly Parton duets). did you ever come across any Huntsman spiders in strange places? I'd go into meltdown
Yes it's a boa or a python I think, but a long time ago
Hey there. These are cool. Snakes don't really bother me too much. Not that I wanna hang out with them or anything. I don't care for spiders. I got bit by one in the past. Not a pretty sight.
No, I don't mind spiders or snakes. Like with most animals though, I'm happy for them to be far away from me!
I've never (knowingly) encountered a Huntsman or a Red Back, but I received plenty of first aid training just in case. Here's hoping I'll never need it.
Don't mind snakes but spiders? EEK! Mrs Mick deals with them in this house. True.
By the way, that 'Ray Stevens' song is Jim Stafford too.. Anyone remember 'My Girl Bill' from the same album?
The mullet is without question the most frightening thing in this post.
Snakes and spiders...no problem but mullets and Motley Crue tees give me the fuckin' heebee geebees.
That's exactly why I give them the widest of serves Keith..
I don't like fish either Cocktails - well any with more teeth than me. First aiders for animal bites? That's Australia crossed off my 'must visit' list
Mrs M does spider chores (I do wasps) here too Mick, apart from one big ol' bugger where we had to get the neighbour in, and he wasn't that keen either..
I was thinking of reviving the ol mullet look for winter save buying a scarf you see - whaddya reckon?
I do remember My Girl Bill Mick, But I'm confused with the Ray/Jim conundrum are they the same person or is it poor MP3 tagging?
Not the same person. My guess is bad tagging. I know these old songs because BrotheRay who sometimes leave comments on my blog had the LP. He made a CD for me a while back with Jim Stafford's version of Mr Bojangles which he considers brilliant but I think is hokey beyond belief. I can rip it and upload it and see if it brings a tear to your eye or makes you giggle.
Don't even think about reviving the mullet.
I'll check it on Spotify first Mick - though I imagine it's close to Bobby Goldsboro style noodlings..
I think my original Mull' ran for about 8 years cocktails, but it was always more thisthan this
Fantastic theme and post Mondo! My favorite was the video of course... Dolly looks adorable in it :)
Hope you have a great weekend!!
Check out my new blog "Sleevie Wonders", I'm looking for you to do me your own versions of loved or loathed LP and 45 sleeves.
Have a peep at these duets too Gabbi - Tom Jones and Janis Joplin, Ray Charles and Billy Preston, Lulu and Johnny Cash..
Working on it now Coops have it to you tomorrow latest..
we have various spiders about the house... not inside but under the outside lamp, in a hole by the front door... etc. the big ones with big black legs are always called Boris...
