Dave even commandeered Piley, George and myself for a cover of a TV theme. There’s shouts for Flexipop, Thee Cee Cees (7” now available at Fives Records, Leigh ), salty gig tales from Steve Mills, John Devlin – and a run on nearly famous names.

Radio Podrophenia: The World of Easy Listening
Slip into your leisure slacks, dust down your satin smoking jacket - pour something long and clinky from the drinks cabinet, and let Podrophenia soothe you with two hours of tunes as we make our March return with an Easy Listening special...
It's a theme chosen by Alan McPhail. Expect a few new spins on some cheesier artists, and lesser known nuggets by lounge-core lovelies from Piley and self: safari suited singers getting on the good foot, country twangers going funky, divas doing disco - and a Northern Soul cover that out-stomps the original...
All this and a universally exclusive airing of an Eight Round Rapid track from the due-soon album. Slink your way to Ship Full of Bombs from 8 pm tonight or chip in with the chat hereabouts

2014: Yesterday's tomorrow - today
Let's put the keys in the ignition - ZZ Top style, rev the engine, pump that pedal and head out on the wild and unknown highway of 2014 with a soundtrack on the stereo that's blazing and blasting a best of - errm, well 2012 *cue the furious squealing of brakes and burning rubber*
2012? - they chorused
Yes, somehow - I just plain forgot to post up my collection of fave finds from that year. But here it is, 23 tracks of fresh-pressed tunes from vintage names (Hugh Cornwell, New York Dolls, Glen Matlock) Some international newbies (Hello Phones, François & the Atlas Mountains, Matsuki Ayumu) best of breed from that year (Eight Rounds Rapid, Thee Faction, Alfa 9, Fay Hallam) and as always rediscovered nuggets..
Scan the list below, then fill your booties, ipos and ears at the bottom. Salut!

The Planet Mondo Annual 2013
Boys, girls, inbetweeners and whatnots - here for your listening ears and grooving legs is the Planet Mondo Annual 2013, prepared for the festive Sadlads CD meetup of Piley, E F Rice, Jack Gestures, Paul Glasses and self. To recap on the rules....
1. Circulate to everyone a CD no longer than 80 minutes in length, containing tracks for new groups you have either got into for the first time this year or established artists you have perhaps picked up an old track/album for this year.
2. You may have more than one track for an artist on the CD (although 80 mins of Springsteen would be pushing it)
3. You supply all those taking part with a CD including a full track listing.
So what has 2013 pitched into my PM playlist?
Beard Rock - Kadaver
Local talent - Eight Rounds Rapid, David Woodcock. Plantman, The Glass Brides
Newly sifted Soul gems - Lonnie Lester, The Dells. The Precisons
The full list is below, rendered as a screen shot to avoid those pesky DMCA types... click on the pic for the complete t-list
Planet Mondo Annual 2013
During the 70-ish minute mix - listen out for appearances from Steve Lamacq, Edith Bowman and Courtney Taylor-Taylor. The PM Annual back issues can be collected hereabouts - except the 2012 edition, which will be wing-dinging its way to us soon-ish
So until then have yourselves a rocking New Year, and perhaps use this mix for prepping music should you be Hootanannying or Hogmanaying it up tonight...

Radio Podrophenia: tonight Shipful of Bombs Blows Up
People of Podrophenia, tonight we bring you the October edition of Podrophenia, wherein we celebrate twenty years of Blow Up - the club, the label and the bands. A club with it's roots in the Southend Scene - starting at the Monkey House, Croc's. and The Periphery
Piley and I will be joined by Blow Up's Generalissimo Paul Tunkin for some, natter chatter and tunes covering the club's back catalogue, current releases and at some point, hope to reveal a world exclusive on a new tune...
Kick off's 8pm Southend Central Time at Ship Full of Bombs, swing by and join us - or park up at our all new chat room (holding up to 7000 chatterboxes) to chip in...

Sunday Sessions: Decks and drums and rock and soul
Regularly of a Sunday, well during Martin McNeill's set, Marmite and I will shoo away any downtime and dead air during the band's breaks by winging in a few tunes to keep the room warmed up and buoyant.
This weekend, Mark Cecil (drummer in Martin McNeill's outfit) brings his own band to The Railway - I've yet to see them in action, but they come recommended with the Marmite Seal of Approval - which is a kitemark of quality in anyone's book.
I believe they're jazzier than the jump blues, New Orleans grooves and western swingers that make up Martin's McNeill's signature sound. So I may add a few new groovers to the crates - tunes like..

Sunday Sessions: Crate Rock 'n' Roll Swingers
Behold the sunday afternoon shindigs at the Railway Hotel: a hooting, tooting blues 'n' booze blast. Should you find yourself loose ended or with a few spare hours to fill this coming sabbath - point and steer yourself in the direction of Southend's most rock 'n' roll local. Why? Martin McNeill's Bottletop Blues Band are installed for their every-third-week-residency and calling on a rolling repertory of premium league players
West End legend Mark Casey could be on drummer duties, Martin Johnson may be onboard for some heavy-handed hammond action, or Wes Weston might be huffing, puffing and blowing the house down.
22nd April this year - zip to 1 minute in for a proper old honk-off
Retro vintage finery is the gear to go for - with jive, swings and spins being the dances of the day - 'it's all about the back-step' I'm advised by those in the know (Mrs M).
Between the sets I'll be spinning a mix of jump blues, west coast blues, early R 'n' B, northern, soul, ska and Latin along the way. Every sesh I try and wing in a few newbie-tunes. This week - stand by for the sounds of Magic Sam and Lowell Fulson.
Lowell Fulson - Can She Do It
So from 4 pm, come and rock-along at The Railway. And who knows pal Wilko may even be in - he was last time!

Never Mind The Broadcasts - Here's the Podcasts
*To the tune of Another Brick in the Wall* - 'We don't need no radio station'........
While Chance Radio is on it's summer sabbatical - Piley and I take Podrophenia on a rolling package tour, with the first stop being Southend's Railway Hotel.
Recorded upstairs last Tuesday while an open mic blues jam was a'buzz in the bar below - we pulled in a couple of those taking part in the blues-off - Tom Burgess and Jess Noah - for some improv tunes (Tom) and chat (Jess)..
We're back at The Railway tonight (upstairs) to record this week's edition with live music and newly-minted tunes from Dave Woodcock. But to hear what last Tuesday in the 13th installment of the Podrophonic Alphabet - dig in and fill your boots and ears below

M is for....
Monkees, Mother Earth, Moroder and possibly even Manfred Mann
After a bank holiday break, Piley and I are installed back in the Chance Radio bunker for the 13th instalment of the Podrophonic Alphabet - the Letter M. There'll be a couple of pop quizzes, Piley's Newsround - and Fi Jacobs from The Railway Hotel joins us for a Railway Round-up. Dig in here from 9.
The single edit of a magical Moroder moment..
Giorgio Moroder - From Here To Eternity
Spot the sample? Which Essex band borrowed this horn riff for their own use? And is it my grizzled old ears or do the Manfred's sound frighteningly like The Charlatans here..

L is For....
Led Zep (a BBC recording rarity), Little Richard a Roxy album track and Lulu - but which Lulu to choose? Feeling Alright, Watch That Man or Morning Dew?
Last week's radio runout didn't manage to lift off the launch pad - due to a last minute tech meltdown, so refreshed and re-revved after an unexpected Tuesday night off - Piley and I are back in bunker from 9 tonight at Chance Radio - why not swing by and listen live.
Divvyshare upload problems seem to be over - so as promised a take away versh of last Friday's funky nugget

The Funky Friday Sessions: Theoretical girl and an explosive soul obscurity
Honey & The Bees - Love Addict must be one of the grooviest tunes ever posted on this ol' blog - in almost five years of posting tunes on this ol' blog. A nifty fit of soul with an opening riff that sounds distantly familiar leading to a soaring chorus that rises and shines like the midsummer sun.
It's a track that at some point, will be spun in during my DJ set at The Railway Hotel tonight - where oddities, obscurities, soul stompers and funky covers will be popped onto the playlist before during and after the bands. I'm not sure who support comes from, but headlining are electro-mod-poppers Theoretical Girl.
Headlining tonight - Theoretical Girl
So if you're Southend based or bound and with a spare Friday - night rally yourself round to The Railway and shake a lively leg...Due to Divshare agg' (read: not allowing uploads) - I can't cross your palm with a copy - but you can lend Love Addict an ear here.

Live Tomorrow Night : The Len Price 3 and the Podr O'Phenia Roadshow
So what are your plans for St Patrick's Day - if the answer's nothing really/not sure/no idea - then shuffle yourself in the general direction of Southend's swingingest venue The Railway Hotel for an evening that promises to be an all out ring-a-ding shindig. And all free too!
Why? Well, local modernists Bif Bam Pow are opening the bill, Medway modernists the Len Price 3 are headlining it - and in between and around 'n' about the bands Piley and I will be bumbling about pulling plums and peaches from within the Podrophenia Record Library
I can't tell you what's on the playlist, as we don't know what's on the playlist - but will thumb a guess that it's likely to be pop-up parade of mod-rockers, soul stompers, jump blues, blue beat, funky covers, northern nuggets, garage a go-go and assorted obscurities and oddities.... Who knows we may even sling in a jingle or two
The Sonic Executive Sessions - Podrophenia jingle
Whether you're a grockel or a local - why not come and keep us company and shake yourself a Podrophonic leg while taking in these two top rocking bands! We'd love to see you there!
Pssst - this is a shoo-in for my Soul Stompers run
Wooden Nickels - Nobody But You
You can taste the Len Price 3 and a possible playlist tune ( a TV theme given a twist - literally) in last Tuesday's Radio Podrophenia

Funky Friday - Sitting on the Soul Step
One for the Surprisingly Funky file that had a run out on Tuedsay's Podrophonic doings was Gene Pitney's supremely stompy She's a Heartbreaker - all northern beats, swooping strings and electric sitar. And I do love an electric sitar...
It fits the riffs and runs of unexpected thumpers we've pulled from the Podrophenia Record Library in proceeding weeks, pacy takes from those you may not expect to step out on such a stealthily good foot - light entertainment bods that we've now sat on the Soul Step: Russ Abbott (on drums), Peters and Lee , Bruce Forsyth, and Cliff Richard,
Gene Pitney - She's a Heartbreaker
For an alt.trim on the track lend an ear to Dave Hunters shindig
Dave Hunter - She's A Heartbreaker
Most of these - quite possibly all of these, will be popped onto the playlist when Piley and I are dabbing about with the decks for the Len Price 3 gig, at The Railway next Saturday - which is a FREE!! gig...

Shocky Horror Show: white lace, see through pants - for him and for her
Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, men and women - is the musical motif for tonight's Podrophonic runout. Unisex, drugs and rock and Roll you could say
I'll be opening with this Jet/Beatles bootleg - but expect The Wolfmen and a mystery northern soul vocalist - along with the usual natter and banter from Piley and the other one. We're live from 9 at Chance Radio

Music and Movement
Inspired by tomorrow's date and it's every-fourth-year-appearance - leaping, jumping and generally bouncing about like Tigger with thistle up his whistle is the theme of this evening's Radio Podrophenia . Slough's finest rock group (Slough's only rock group?), a latin soul trio - and local lad and spectacular beard-fancier Scroobius Pip are popped onto this evening's playlist...
Along with a mystery artist covering a Showstoppers soul stomper. Can you crack it? Course you can - but, only after the doors have opened for Radio Podrophenia live from 9 at Chance Radio
One track that inspired tonight's theme but actually ended up on the sub's bench...

Pop Quiz - Carry on Loving..
Live from 9 - tonight's Radio Podrophenia is pitched around the themes of ' Love and Hate'. Expect a few smoochy(ish) doings from The Sonic Executive Sessions, The Sonics, a Supremes instrumental rarity , a tune titled after this Carry On film - and a mystery artist. Along with handful of angry songs sung to you by Gil Scott Heron and Southend premier punk legends The Machines.
One track almost popped into my Tuesday night hamper was this full and fruity number from another mystery artist - but who is it geting himself into a cross-eyed tizzy.

Galloping DJs
A belly-busting buffet of foody tunes are on the menu for tonight's Radio Podrophenia.
Breakfast, tomatoes (sliced), grapes - baking even are all on the shopping list of popular song. Although given some of the subjects that have been bouncing around the board over the last couple of weeks: Biffins Bridge, Pouch of Douglas and I won't even mention the G word (NSFW in *any* way) - you may be best to have your tea before listening, not after...
Chat and banterwise Piley and I would like to know: extreme eating experiences, forgotten fast food chains and your grimmest eating out moments please
Prick up your ears and prepare for a double helping of 'hellos' from all at E. Pellici's (below) in English and Italian. We're live from 9 on Chance Radio tonight...
